What happened
On August 16, 2024, a serious aviation incident occurred at the Borne Sulinowo landing site involving two aircraft. A Konner K1 helicopter, registered as ID-984, and an An-2 aircraft, registered as SP-NSK, experienced a dangerous close proximity during operations at the airfield.
The investigation
The Polish State Commission for Aircraft Accident Investigation (PKBWL) has undertaken several investigative actions to determine the circumstances of the near miss. The research team has conducted an analysis of video recordings and interviewed witnesses, including the owner of the helicopter. The investigation has also involved reviewing the pilots' licenses and medical certifications, as well as evaluating the radio communication protocols used during the event. Furthermore, the commission is examining the pilots' familiarity with the airfield and verifying whether the operations of both aircraft were conducted with the permission of the airfield manager.
Findings
The investigation is currently ongoing. The commission is awaiting formal statements from the pilots of the An-2 aircraft to complete the factual reconstruction of the event. The investigation will focus on the safety procedures maintained during the flights and the effectiveness of radio communications on the frequency used during the incident.
