What happened
On January 6, 2025, at approximately 14:10 local time, a glider accident occurred at the Vitacura Municipal Aerodrome (SCLC) in the Metropolitan Region of Chile. The aircraft involved was a MYD Flugzeugbau GmbH und Co. KG JS-MD 3 glider.
During the takeoff sequence from runway 26, the glider was being towed by another aircraft. While in the process of departing, the pilot aborted the takeoff. This maneuver caused the glider to veer off the left side of the runway, eventually striking a perimeter wall. The pilot was the sole occupant of the aircraft and remained uninjured, though the glider sustained damage during the impact.
The investigation
DGAC Chile is currently conducting a preliminary investigation into the event. The investigation is presently in the data collection and information analysis phase. Authorities are working to examine the circumstances surrounding the aborted takeoff and the subsequent excursion to determine the underlying factors of the incident.
