What happened
On February 4, 2020, an Embraer EMB-710C aircraft, registration PT-NPG, crashed in a pasture near Fazenda Canindé, in the municipality of Amajari, Roraima. Local residents discovered the aircraft on fire at the site. The impact caused the aircraft to be completely destroyed by flames. The crash resulted in two fatalities among the passengers, while the pilot sustained serious injuries and fled the scene shortly after the occurrence.
The investigation
CENIPA investigators were unable to perform a detailed technical analysis of the aircraft's systems or fuel composition due to the high degree of destruction and the fact that the aircraft owner could not be located to provide documentation or facilitate the removal of wreckage. However, the investigation confirmed that all aircraft components remained at the crash site, ruling out in-flight structural separation.
The investigation focused on the legal status of the crew and the aircraft. It was determined that the pilot was operating without a valid medical certificate and lacked the proper qualifications for the flight. Furthermore, the aircraft's airworthiness certificate was suspended at the time of the accident.
Findings
- The pilot's Aeronautical Medical Certificate (CMA) had been expired since May 2017.
- The pilot's Advanced Ultralight (UATE) rating had been expired since May 2018.
- The pilot lacked the necessary qualifications and experience for the specific type of flight performed.
- The aircraft's Certificate of Airworthiness (CA) was suspended.
- Non-compliance with aviation regulations was identified as a contributing factor to the accident.
