What happened
On March 22, 2016, a Cessna 210K, registered as CP-2609, performed an unplanned landing in the vicinity of the Fátima community, near Denise, Mato Grosso. Following the landing, the aircraft was destroyed by fire. Local police from Nova Olímpia discovered the wreckage and noted the presence of matches and a container holding fuel residue near the site of the impact.
The investigation
The investigation, conducted by SERIPA VI, focused on the circumstances surrounding the aircraft's destruction and the disappearance of the occupants. Investigators examined the wreckage and the items found at the scene, including the fuel container and incendiary materials. However, the investigation was officially terminated by CENIPA. Under Brazilian aeronautical regulations (NSCA 3-13), authorities may cease investigations if there are indications of criminal activity or if the occurrence resulted from a violation of aviation laws that would not yield new information for accident prevention.
