What happened
On June 16, 2015, at approximately 17:00 UTC, a Cessna 210L, registration PR-OLA, was attempting to land in an area near Fazenda Ponte de Pedra II, located in Rondonópolis, Mato Grosso. The landing area was being used as a transit zone for vehicles at the time of the occurrence. During the landing roll, the pilot lost control of the aircraft, causing it to collide with a cotton plantation.
Following the impact, witnesses reported that the occupants were picked up by a white utility vehicle immediately after the aircraft came to a halt. While the aircraft sustained substantial damage, there were no fatalities reported among the two occupants. However, the identity of the pilot could not be established, and the pilot was not located in local hospitals following the event.
The investigation
CENIPA's investigation focused on the operational conditions and the legality of the landing site. Investigators confirmed that the aircraft's Airworthiness Certificate and Annual Maintenance Inspection were both valid at the time of the accident. Meteorological conditions were favorable for visual flight rules (VFR).
The investigation also noted that the landing area used by the crew was not a registered aerodrome on the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) database. Due to the presence of potential illegalities and the inability to identify the pilot, the investigation was eventually interrupted, as the authorities determined that further aeronautical investigation would not yield new preventive knowledge beyond the enforcement of existing regulations.
