What happened
On June 27, 2019, a Vans RV-10, registration PR-ZMP, was performing a private flight from Timon, Maranhão, to Camocim, Ceará. The aircraft was carrying a pilot and two passengers. During the landing roll on runway 14 at the Camocim Aerodrome (SNWC), the pilot lost directional control of the aircraft. This resulted in a runway excursion, where the aircraft veered off the left side of the runway. The impact caused substantial damage to the aircraft, though all three occupants escaped without injury.
The investigation
The investigation by SERIPA II faced significant challenges due to the timing of the notification and the handling of the scene. The investigating authority was only notified of the occurrence seven days after the accident. Furthermore, the aircraft was removed from the accident site without prior authorization from the investigating authority. This removal prevented investigators from performing essential on-site inspections, component testing, and forensic examinations. Because the aircraft was moved and the investigation could not access the necessary evidence to determine weight and balance or mechanical failures, the authorities decided to terminate the investigation, as no further preventive findings could be established.
