What happened
On June 25, 2018, at approximately 20:30 UTC, an unidentified aircraft departed from an unregistered aerodrome located in the community of Crepurizão, in the municipality of Itaituba, Pará. During the takeoff roll, the aircraft's landing gear collided with a motorcycle that was traveling across the area being used for the takeoff.
Following the collision, the aircraft continued its takeoff and departed the area. Because the aircraft was not located after the event, investigators were unable to identify the aircraft's registration, manufacturer, model, or the number of occupants on board. The purpose of the flight also remained unknown.
The investigation
The investigation, conducted by SERIPA I, was initiated after the authorities learned of the occurrence through the press approximately nine hours after the event. Due to the fact that the aircraft departed from an unregistered airfield and disappeared from the scene, investigators could not establish the extent of the damage to the aircraft or the condition of the flight crew.
Investigators focused on the impact involving the third-party vehicle. The motorcycle was carrying two individuals at the time of the collision. The investigation was ultimately interrupted because the operation involved a violation of aeronautical legislation (use of an unregistered aerodrome), and the lack of identifiable data meant that no new preventive knowledge could be gained through further investigation.
