What happened
On October 5, 2014, a Cessna 182P, registration PT-KMS, departed from Manuel Urbano, Acre, bound for Sena Madureira. The flight was conducted as a private operation. During the flight, the pilot performed an emergency landing in an igarapé (a small stream), a tributary of the Purus River, near Seringal São Vicente.
At the time of the landing, the aircraft was partially submerged, resulting in substantial damage to the airframe. While the pilot survived the impact, the exact extent of any injuries could not be fully determined due to the aircraft's position in the water. Reports from third parties indicated the pilot sustained a minor abrasion to the leg. Following the event, the Brazilian Air Force conducted search operations for three days before concluding the mission after confirming the pilot had landed safely.
The investigation
The investigation into the occurrence was interrupted by CENIPA. The investigators found that the operation was conducted in significant violation of several aviation regulations. Notably, the pilot refused to provide any information to the investigator-in-charge, despite being informed that the purpose of the interview was accident prevention. Because the circumstances of the flight involved multiple intentional violations of aeronautical legislation, the investigators determined that further analysis would not yield new safety findings, as all corrective actions would simply involve the strict observance of existing laws.
