Casualties unknown • LEOPOLDO DE BULHÕES, GO, BR

A night flight involving an Embraer EMB-711ST resulted in a fatal crash near Leopoldo de Bulhões, Brazil, after the aircraft entered an abnormal attitude during deteriorating weather conditions.

What happened

On the night of September 24, 2009, an Embraer EMB-711ST, registration PT-RKS, departed from Brasília (SBBR) bound for Anápolis (SBGO) to transport two occupants. While operating under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), the pilot requested vectors from Anápolis Approach to deviate from weather formations. During this maneuvering, radio and radar contact with the aircraft was lost.

The aircraft was subsequently located approximately 23 NM from SBGO, where it had struck the ground with extreme force. The impact, characterized by a high-energy collision at a steep 60-degree dive angle, resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft and two fatalities.
