What happened
On January 31, 2012, a Cessna 210L, registration PT-IRJ, departed from the Santo Antônio de Leverger aerodrome in Mato Grosso, Brazil, bound for Marechal Rondon. Approximately one hour into the flight, the pilot experienced a loss of engine power. Due to the loss of thrust, the pilot performed an emergency landing in an uncertified area near the municipality of Nova Brasilândia.
During the landing sequence, the aircraft encountered holes in the terrain of the chosen landing site. This caused the landing gear to collapse, resulting in substantial damage to the aircraft. The pilot was the sole occupant of the aircraft and escaped the incident uninjured.
The investigation
The investigation by SERIPA VI examined the circumstances surrounding the engine failure and the subsequent emergency landing. Investigators reviewed the pilot's credentials and the aircraft's airworthiness status. While the aircraft held a valid Certificate of Airworthiness, the investigation noted several regulatory discrepancies regarding the pilot's documentation. Additionally, the investigation could not confirm the aircraft's weight and balance status or the current maintenance logs for the engine, propeller, and airframe.
