What happened
On August 7, 2007, an Embraver EMB-810C, registration PT-WID, operated by Radial Aerotáxi Ltda., departed from the Plácido de Castro Aerodrome in Rio Branco, Acre, intended for Jordão, Acre. However, the pilot deviated from the filed flight plan and proceeded to the locality of Novo Porto, Acre, an area where no airstrip had been officially approved by the competent aviation authority.
The pilot stated the purpose of the flight was to perform a medical evacuation to assist an individual in need of medical care. However, the aircraft was not configured with the necessary ANAC-approved equipment for patient transport. During the landing roll at the unapproved site, the aircraft struck a fence post located on the ground. The impact caused the sudden stoppage of the engine and resulted in substantial damage to the right main landing gear, propeller, engine, right flap, and elevator trim tab. The pilot was uninjured.
The investigation
CENIPA examined the flight records and the operational circumstances of the event. The investigation confirmed that the pilot held valid medical and technical certifications, and the aircraft possessed a valid airworthiness certificate with up-to-date maintenance logs for the engine, propeller, and airframe.
However, the investigation noted that the flight was conducted in violation of established aeronautical regulations. Because the occurrence resulted from a deliberate deviation from flight plans and the use of an unapproved landing site, the investigation was concluded without further analysis of contributing factors, as the primary issue was the non-compliance with existing aviation laws.
