What happened
On August 24, 2012, a Cessna 172, registered as C-FNET, was conducting a flight under visual flight rules from Waterloo to Niagara Falls, Ontario. During the return trip, the aircraft failed to arrive at its destination, prompting a search operation.
Following several reports of an active emergency locator transmitter (ELT) signal, the aircraft was located in a corn field situated near Sideroad 3 in Moorefield, Ontario. The impact resulted in four fatalities.
The investigation
The investigation focused on determining the circumstances leading to the aircraft's loss of control and subsequent impact with the ground. Investigators examined the wreckage and analyzed the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
