What happened
On 16 August 2015, a Beechcraft King Air A100, registered as C-FDOR, was performing a charter flight from Halifax Stanfield International Airport to Margaree Aerodrome, Nova Scotia. The aircraft was carrying two pilots and two passengers at the time of the incident.
During a visual approach to Runway 01, the aircraft experienced a heavy touchdown approximately 263 feet past the runway threshold. This hard landing caused the immediate collapse of the right main landing gear, which subsequently led to the right wing and propeller making contact with the runway surface. The aircraft continued to slide for roughly 1350 feet before veering right and exiting the runway. The aircraft eventually stopped 1850 feet beyond the threshold, positioned 22 feet from the runway edge. There were no injuries reported, and no fire occurred following the impact. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the approach and the physical mechanics of the landing. Investigators examined the flight path and the state of the aircraft upon touchdown. It was determined that the 406-megahertz emergency locator transmitter failed to activate during the event.
