What happened

On 20 September 2017, a Cessna 150J was performing a round-trip training flight under visual flight rules. The flight originated from Brampton-Caledon airport with a destination of Goderich, Ontario. The aircraft was carrying two persons on board at the time of the accident.

Radar tracking last positioned the aircraft at 0036 UTC (2036 EST) at an altitude of 1800 feet. At this time, the aircraft was approximately 1 nautical mile east of the Goderich municipal airport. Following this last radar contact, the aircraft was located submerged and suffering heavy damage in Lake Huron. The accident resulted in two fatalities.
