What happened
On 12 October 2017, a Beech King Air A100 was performing an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight from Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, to Jean Lesage International Airport. The aircraft, operated by Skyjet M. G., was carrying two crew members and six passengers.
As the aircraft approached runway 24 and had recently passed the final approach fix, the crew spotted a drone (unmanned aerial vehicle) positioned near the tip of the left wing. The Beech King Air A100 subsequently collided with the UAV at an altitude of approximately 1500 feet. Following the impact, the crew declared an emergency. Emergency response teams, including aircraft rescue and firefighting services, were dispatched to the scene. The aircraft managed to land safely on runway 24, and there were no injuries reported among the occupants.
The investigation
Investigators examined the aircraft following the incident to assess the extent of the damage. The inspection of the Beech King Air A100 identified several scratches and paint transfer on the upper surface of the left wing, along with scrape marks located on the de-icing boot. After these findings were documented, the aircraft was cleared to return to service.
