What happened
On the afternoon of 15 April 20 and 2018, a privately registered Cessna C550 Citation Bravo was preparing for a flight from Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport in Manitoba to Bedford, Massachusetts. Following engine start-up under the direction of a ground marshaller, the aircraft began its taxi sequence.
As the pilot initiated the first turn from the parking area, the aircraft experienced a loss of control. This resulted in the right wing of the Cessna C550 Citation Bravo striking the nose gear of a stationary Bombardier CL-600-2B16 (Challenger 605). Following the impact, the pilot shut down the engines and evacuated the aircraft along with one passenger.
The investigation
The collision caused significant structural damage to the right wing of the Cessna C550 Citation Bravo, which subsequently led to a fuel leak on the airport apron. The nose gear area of the parked Bombardier CL-600-2B16 (Challenger 605) also sustained damage from the impact.
Emergency responders and airport rescue and firefighting services were notified of the accident and the resulting fuel spill. Personnel arrived on-site and successfully contained the leak. There were no injuries reported to the occupants of either aircraft.
