What happened
On 28 June 2018, a Cessna 182P, registered as C-GKKU, departed from Calgary Springbank Airport in Alberta, en route to Nanaimo, British Columbia. The aircraft was being operated privately and carried two people on board.
During the transit, the pilot received notification from the Kelowna sector air traffic service that radar service had been terminated. Roughly 30 minutes following this notification, the aircraft struck a mountain approximately 19 nautical miles northeast of Hope, British Columbia. The impact resulted in the destruction of the aircraft by a post-collision fire. Both occupants sustained fatal injuries.
