What happened
In July 2019, an Rans S-6ES Coyote II ultralight aeroplane, registered as C-IIJJ, was involved in a collision with terrain near Rougemont, Quebec. The aircraft was being operated for the purpose of a pleasure flight with two people on board. The pilot involved in the incident was a friend of the aircraft's owner and had previously operated this specific aircraft on several occasions since its purchase in early 2019.
The investigation
The TSB conducted a Class 4 investigation into the event. The scope of the inquiry focused on the circumstances surrounding the aircraft's impact with the ground. The investigation noted that the aircraft had undergone some minor maintenance following its acquisition by the current owner in January 2019. The pilot was intended to undergo training to obtain an ultralight aeroplane pilot permit, though they had some prior experience with this particular airframe.
