What happened
On 12 July 2019, a privately operated de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver was conducting a flight under visual flight rules in Quebec. The aircraft was traveling from Gouin Reservoir toward Weakwaten Lake, located northwest of Chibougamau. On board were the pilot and three passengers.
During the flight, the aircraft struck trees approximately 43 nautical miles south of Chibougamau Airport. The impact resulted in two fatalities and one minor injury. The aircraft itself suffered substantial damage during the collision.
The investigation
Following the accident, the aircraft's emergency locator transmitter (ELT) activated. This signal allowed a Canadian Armed Forces CC130 Hercules to locate the wreckage. The surviving passenger was successfully rescued and subsequently moved to a hospital in Chibougamau for medical treatment.
