What happened
On 22 August 2019, a Cessna U206G floatplane, operated by Bel-Air Laurentien Aviation Inc., was performing a local flight under visual flight rules. The aircraft was departing from Lac-à-la-Tortue, Quebec, carrying a pilot and five passengers.
During the final approach phase of the flight, the aircraft suffered an engine failure. This loss of power caused the plane to collide with trees located south of the lake, approximately 800 feet from the shoreline. The impact resulted in substantial damage to the aircraft. While four of the passengers escaped without harm, the pilot and one passenger sustained minor injuries. Following the collision, the aircraft's Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) was activated.
The investigation
The TSB conducted a Class 4 investigation into the incident, which focused on the circumstances surrounding the engine failure and the subsequent impact with the terrain.
