What happened

On 06 June 2020, a Cessna 172M, registered as CF-CCV, was performing a local training flight departing from Boundary Bay Airport (CZBB) in British Columbia. The aircraft was operated by the International Flight Centre and carried two occupants: a student pilot and a flight instructor.

At approximately 13:12 PDT, the aircraft vanished from radar tracking while flying over the Fraser River in the vicinity of Maple Ridge, BC. At the moment it disappeared from surveillance, the aircraft was traveling eastbound at an altitude of 200 feet with an airspeed of 80 knots.

The investigation

The TSB conducted a class 4 investigation into the disappearance. The investigation focused on the aircraft's last known position and flight parameters prior to losing radar contact. The investigation established that the aircraft was involved in a collision with a power line during its flight path near Maple Ridge.
