What happened

On March 3, 2021, a Wag-A-Bond amateur-built aircraft, registered as C-GKGX, was performing a visual flight rules flight departing from Barron Lake, Quebec. The flight was intended to proceed to Lachute Airport. Shortly after the aircraft departed, it executed a left turn and struck the ice surface of the lake. The impact left the aircraft in a vertical position. The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, sustained fatal injuries. Following the collision, the aircraft's emergency locator transmitter (ELT) was activated.
