What happened
On July 5, 2021, a Nanchable CJ6A was performing a recreational flight from Joliette to St-Esprit, Quebec. As the aircraft was completing its final landing phase, the right wing made contact with an open-cabin lawn tractor that was positioned on the runway.
Following the impact, the pilot managed to keep the aircraft under control, eventually bringing it to a halt in a cultivated field located adjacent to the runway. The collision resulted in one fatality for the operator of the lawn tractor. While the aircraft sustained substantial damage, the pilot escaped the incident without injury.
The investigation
The TSB conducted a Class 4 investigation into the collision. The investigation focused on the sequence of events leading to the contact between the aircraft's wing and the ground vehicle on the runway.
