What happened

On 22 January 2024, an Agusta AW119 MKII helicopter was performing heli-skiing operations roughly 21 nautical miles northwest of Terrace, British Columbia. The aircraft, owned by Skyline Helicopters Ltd. and leased to Northern Escape Heli Skiing, was carrying a crew of one pilot and one ski guide, along with five passengers.

While in flight, the helicopter struck the terrain, resulting in the total destruction of the aircraft. The onboard emergency locator transmitter failed to transmit a signal following the impact. Nearby helicopters engaged in similar operations responded to the scene of the accident.

The investigation

The TSB deployed a team of investigators to the site to gather information and assess the circumstances surrounding the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
