What happened
On 23 September 2017, at approximately 13:15 UTC, two aircraft were involved in a ground collision at Sleap Aerodrome, Shropshire. The first aircraft, a DH82A Tiger Moth registered G-BMPY, was performing a private flight and was taxiing from the grass apron toward the runway. During this maneuver, the pilot of the G-BMPY executed a left turn intended to navigate around several parked aircraft.
One of the stationary aircraft being bypassed was a Reims Cessna F152, registered G-LAMS, which was positioned on the apron with its engine running. During the turn, the right wingtip of the G-BMPY entered the propeller arc of the G-LAMS. The impact caused damage to the right wingtips of the G-BMPY and resulted in damage to the propeller of the G-LAMS, with evidence suggesting a possible engine shock-load. No injuries were reported for the pilot of the G-BMPY or the occupants of the G-LAMS.
The investigation
The investigation was based on the aircraft accident report form provided by the pilot. Investigators examined the sequence of movements on the airfield and the positioning of the aircraft involved. The inquiry established that the G-LAMS was stationary with its engine operational at the time of the incident.
