What happened
On 31 March 2016, at approximately 13:01 UTC, a Eurofox 912(S), registration G-CHUP, was performing a private flight at Shobpend Airfield in Herefordshire. During the landing phase on Runway 27, the aircraft was transitioning off the runway to the left at a low speed. During this maneuver, the right main landing gear leg failed.
There were no injuries to the two crew members on board. The aircraft sustained damage specifically to the right landing gear leg.
The investigation
The investigation examined the circumstances surrounding the structural failure of the landing gear. The pilot reported that the failure occurred as the aircraft was turning off the runway. Evidence suggested that the structural integrity of the gear leg may have been compromised by damage sustained during a prior incident on 2 September 2014.
Findings
- The right main landing gear leg failed during a low-speed turn off the runway.
- Previous damage from a 2014 accident is believed to have contributed to the failure of the landing gear component.
