What happened
On 18 April 2018, a P&M Aviation PulsR, registration G-FFFA, was performing a private flight from Cotswold Airport to Manton Airfield in Wiltshire. The purpose of the flight was to deliver the aircraft to the manufacturer's facility for its annual inspection and the renewal of its Permit to Fly.
Upon arrival at Manton Airfield, the pilot performed a low-level pass at roughly 100 feet to check the status of Runway 27, a 350-meter grass strip. Following this check, the pilot proceeded with a normal landing. During the landing roll, at a speed of approximately 30 knots and roughly 100 meters along the runway, the left wheel made contact with the edge of a hollow. This impact caused the aircraft to bounce and roll toward the right. The right wingtip subsequently contacted the ground, causing the aircraft to spin nearly 180 degrees before coming to a halt on its right side. The pilot, who sustained no injuries, was able to exit the cockpit and secure the aircraft.
The investigation
The investigation examined the landing sequence and the condition of the airfield surface. It was noted that the aircraft sustained substantial damage to its propeller, fuselage, landing gear fairing, and wing. Investigators also looked into the state of the runway surface near the threshold of Runway 27.
