What happened
On 19 September 2015, a Pegasus Quantum 15, registration G-MZJH, was conducting a private flight near Slipton, Northamptonshire. During the approach to a private airstrip, the aircraft was flying at an estimated speed of 55 mph in favorable weather conditions. While maintaining an altitude of approximately 30 ft agl, the aircraft experienced a sudden drop in altitude and struck the ground. Following the impact, the aircraft slid for roughly 30 yards before rolling onto its right side. The two people on board, the pilot and one passenger, both sustained minor injuries.
The investigation
The investigation was based on the aircraft accident report form provided by the pilot. The examination focused on the flight parameters leading up to the impact and the physical damage sustained by the aircraft, which included damage to the wing, the right wheel spat, the fibreglass body, and the nosewheel assembly.
