What happened
On 7 August 2018, a Pegasus Quantum 15 (registration G-BZBR) was conducting a private flight from an unlicensed airstrip. During the flight, the pilot encountered turbulence, which prompted a decision to abort the planned flight path and instead perform a circuit to land at the departure site.
While executing a long and low approach to the landing strip, the aircraft struck a wire mesh fence located at the boundary of the airfield. The impact resulted in serious injuries to the pilot and caused extensive damage to both the trike and the wing of the aircraft.
The investigation
The investigation was based on the aircraft accident report form submitted by the pilot. Investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the approach and the environmental conditions present at the time of the accident. The pilot noted that the approach may have been influenced by adverse wind conditions encountered during the flight.
