What happened
On 26 November 2020, a Starduster Too SA300, registration G-WINN, was conducting private flight operations at Haverfordwest Airport in Pembrokeshire. The pilot was performing circuit training and practice landings under favorable weather conditions, characterized by clear skies and no significant wind.
After successfully completing five landings, the pilot attempted a sixth landing on the asphalt Runway 03. As the aircraft approached the runway, which features a downhill gradient, it began to veer toward the right. In an attempt to maintain the centerline, the pilot applied a correction that caused the aircraft to turn left, subsequently leading to a skid toward the right side of the runway. During this maneuver, the right wing struck the ground, the right landing gear leg collapsed, and the propeller sustained damage upon contact with the runway surface. There were no injuries to the pilot.
The investigation
The investigation was based on the aircraft accident report submitted by the pilot. Investigators reviewed the sequence of the landing, the runway conditions, and the pilot's control inputs. The examination established that the aircraft was operating in clear weather with no reported wind at the time of the incident.
