What happened
On the evening of August 20, 2023, a group of three flex-wing microlight pilots departed from Périgueux aerodrome for a circular cross-country flight. The group intended to visit the Valeuil microlight strip as part of a flight to honor a local individual. As the pilots approached the destination, the pilot of the 24TS began a descent toward the Valeuil runway.
During this approach, the accompanying pilots observed an electric arc, indicating that the aircraft had struck high-voltage power lines located near the strip. The impact caused several strands of the cables to rupture. The aircraft subsequently crashed, resulting in one fatality and the destruction of the 24TS flex-wing microlight.
