What happened
On June 5, 2017, a Robin DR200 (registration F-BNPM) operated by Aéroclub du Val d’Is was preparing for a local flight from the Til-Chatel aerodrome. The aircraft, carrying a pilot and one passenger, intended to depart from the unpaved runway 02.
During the initial takeoff roll, as the aircraft reached a speed of approximately 60 km/h, it suddenly veered to the left. The pilot attempted to correct the deviation using the right rudder pedal, but the input had no effect. The pilot subsequently applied the brakes and brought the aircraft to a stop on the runway.
Following the initial incident, the pilot attempted a second takeoff. During the taxi to the departure point, the pilot performed several rudder tests, and the aircraft appeared to behave normally. However, during the second takeoff roll, the aircraft again experienced a sudden leftward deviation at approximately 60 km/h. Despite further attempts to counter the turn, the deviation persisted. As the pilot applied the brakes to stop the aircraft, the right main landing gear failed (rupture), resulting in significant damage to the aircraft.
