What happened
On 16 November 2008, at approximately 12:00 UTC, a private flight involving an Aerotechnik EV-97A, registration G-CCEM, was conducting taxiing maneuvers at Netherthorpe Airfield, near Sheffield. While the pilot was attempting to maneuver the aircraft into a parking position within a vacant space situated between two other aircraft, the propeller of the G-CCEM made contact with the left wing of a stationary Auster.
The investigation
The investigation was based on the aircraft accident report form provided by the pilot. The examination focused on the sequence of the taxiing maneuver and the physical contact between the two aircraft. The contact resulted in structural damage to the Auster's left wing and aileron, as well as damage to the propeller of the Aerotechnik EV-97A.
Findings
- The collision occurred during ground taxiing operations.
- The propeller strike caused the primary damage to the stationary aircraft's control surfaces and wing structure.
- There were no injuries to the pilot or the passenger on board the G-CCEM.
