What happened
On September 9, 2018, at 11:46 UTC, a Rolladen Schneider LS4 glider, registration OY-XMO, was performing a landing at Kongsted (EKKS) under visual flight rules (VFR). During the landing rollout on runway 2 and 5, a crosswind caused the left wing of the aircraft to lift, resulting in a rightward turn. As the aircraft veered, the right wing struck vegetation located at the runway boundary, forcing the glider to rotate approximately 45 degrees to the right. The aircraft eventually came to a complete stop in a stream located near the runway perimeter. The pilot, who estimated the wind conditions to be from 210 degrees at 10 knots, escaped the incident with no injuries.
The investigation
The Danish Accident Investigation Board conducted an initial safety investigation based on the pilot's report, photographic evidence, and interviews. The investigation focused on the sequence of events during the landing phase and the resulting damage to the airframe. The investigation concluded after the initial assessment, with no further formal investigation being launched.
