What happened
On June 19, 2021, at approximately 08:15 UTC, a private motor glider, an HB Brditschka HB 23/2400 Scanliner with registration OY-TBX, was involved in an accident during a private VFR flight. The aircraft was taxiing on the ground at Gesten Svæveflyveplads, intended for a flight toward a private airfield near Klelund. During the ground movement, the right main wheel struck a hole in the surface. The impact caused the right main landing gear to break, which subsequently led to the right wingtip making contact with the ground.
The investigation
The Danish Accident Investigation Board conducted an initial safety investigation into the event. The inquiry examined the sequence of the taxiing maneuver and the physical damage sustained by the aircraft. A technical examination of the wreckage confirmed that the incident resulted in substantial structural damage to the motor glider.
Findings
- The primary cause of the accident was the right main landing gear collapsing after the wheel encountered a depression in the taxiway surface.
- There were no fatalities associated with this event.
- One person sustained serious injuries during the incident.
