What happened
During an incident involving an Airbus A319-131, registration G-DBCI, a discrepancy was identified regarding the division of duties between flight crew members. The investigation focused on the procedures followed during a rejected takeoff, specifically concerning the responsibilities of the pilot seated in the right position.
The investigation
Following an examination of the operator's documentation, the AAIB discovered that the company's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) contained a requirement for the right-seat pilot to perform specific duties typically reserved for the commander under certain conditions. However, the investigation found that the training provided to the co-pilot appeared to contradict these established SOPs, particularly regarding handling duties during a rejected takeoff.
Upon being presented with this information, the operator clarified that there was no inherent conflict between their formal SOPs and the training delivered to their flight crews. To ensure the official record accurately reflected the roles of the crew members involved and the relationship between their training and the operator's manual, the Chief Inspector ordered a revised final report.
