What happened
On January 14, 2001, a Robin DR 400/180, registration I-LGET, departed from Alessandria airport for a local flight carrying a pilot and two passengers. Approximately 15 minutes into the flight, the engine began to operate irregularly, experiencing a loss of RPM. The pilot, suspecting carburetor icing, applied carburetor heat; however, the engine subsequently failed completely.
Unable to return to the runway, the pilot identified a suitable landing site and performed an emergency landing at 15:50 UTC. The aircraft struck uneven, muddy ground approximately one kilometer north of the runway 21 threshold. While the three occupants escaped without injury, the aircraft sustained substantial damage, including a broken nose gear, a collapsed right main gear, and damage to the engine mount, flaps, and propeller spinner.
