What happened
On 29 September 2013, a Beagle Auster D5 Series 180 Husky, registration G-ATMH, was involved in an occurrence at Bovington Camp in Dorset. The aircraft was being operated for the purpose of a glider towing sortie. While the initial documentation suggested the aircraft had completed a previous flight earlier that day, the pilot later clarified that the accident flight was actually the first flight of the day.
The investigation
Following the event, the AAIB examined the circumstances surrounding the flight. The investigation focused on the operational details of the glider towing mission and addressed discrepancies in the initial reporting regarding the aircraft's flight history for that date. The investigation established that the pilot's account regarding the flight sequence was the accurate record, correcting an earlier misunderstanding in the published report.
