Aircraft stall and collision at Buriti Alegre Airfield

No fatalities • Buriti Alegre, Brazil • Landing (descent or approach)

An aircraft experienced a stall and struck a wall short of the runway during its final approach to Buriti Alegre Airfield, resulting in a post-crash fire.

What happened

During a flight originating from Goiânia-Santa Genoveva Airport, an aircraft was performing its final approach to runway 05 at Buriti Alegre Airfield. While attempting to configure the plane for landing, the pilot made two unsuccessful attempts to deploy the flaps because the circuit breakers tripped.

In response to this mechanical issue, the pilot proceeded with the approach using a flapless configuration. During the short final phase of the flight, the aircraft entered a stall and struck a wall situated approximately 15 metres before the start of the runway. The force of the collision caused the undercarriage to be ripped from the airframe. The plane subsequently slid for 500 metres on its belly before a fire erupted.

Despite the intensity of the post-impact fire, which resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft, all six occupants managed to evacuate the wreckage. There were zero fatalities and zero injuries reported among the crew and passengers.

Findings

  • The pilot attempted to operate the flaps, but the electrical circuit breakers opened during the process.
  • The aircraft stalled while flying in a flapless configuration during the final approach.

Probable cause

The aircraft entered a stall during the final approach phase after the pilot attempted to land without flaps due to tripped circuit breakers.
