What happened
During the approach phase to Foz do Iguaçu Airport, a twin-engine aircraft encountered significantly reduced visibility caused by heavy rainfall. While descending toward the runway, the aircraft struck treetops and a powerline. The impact occurred in a wooded area situated approximately one kilometer before the threshold of the runway.
As a result of the collision, the aircraft was completely destroyed. There were six fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft, with no survivors reported.
Findings
Investigation into the crash indicates that the crew failed to maintain the necessary altitude during the approach. The combination of poor visibility due to heavy rain and an insufficient altitude led to the aircraft making contact with obstacles on the ground before reaching the airport.
