What happened
A charter flight operating from Charallave-Óscar Machado Zuloaga Airport was en route to Valera-Carvajal Airport when the accident occurred. The flight was carrying a total of six people, consisting of two pilots and four passengers. During the descent toward the destination, the twin engine aircraft was operating under instrument meteorological conditions (IMC).
At an altitude of approximately 9,650 feet, the aircraft struck the slope of Mt Piedra Gorda, situated roughly 35 km from the arrival airport. The force of the collision caused the aircraft to disintegrate. Search efforts located the wreckage during the late afternoon the day after the impact. There were 6 fatalities and no survivors.
Findings
The accident took place while the aircraft was flying in IMC conditions during its approach phase.
