At an altitude of approximately 9,650 feet, the aircraft struck the slope of Mt Piedra Gorda, situated roughly 35 km from the arrival airport. The force of the collision caused the aircraft to disintegrate. Search efforts located the wreckage during the late afternoon the day after the impact. There were 6 fatalities and no survivors.
