What happened
On the morning of October 25, 2002, a Raytheon (Beechcraft) King Air A100, registered as N41BE, was conducting an on-demand passenger charter flight under instrument flight rules. The aircraft, operated by Aviation Charter, Inc., was attempting to complete a VOR approach to runway 27 at Eveleth-Virginia Municipal Airport in Eveleth, Minnesota.
During the approach phase, the aircraft impacted the ground approximately 1.8 nautical miles southeast of the runway's approach end. The impact forces and a subsequent fire resulting from the crash destroyed the airframe. The accident resulted in eight fatalities, including the two pilots and six passengers.
Findings
At the time of the accident, the flight was operating under instrument meteorological conditions. The aircraft was being operated in accordance with 14 CFR Part 135 regulations.
