What happened

On the morning of October 25, 2002, a Raytheon (Beechcraft) King Air A100, registered as N41BE, was conducting an on-demand passenger charter flight under instrument flight rules. The aircraft, operated by Aviation Charter, Inc., was attempting to complete a VOR approach to runway 27 at Eveleth-Virginia Municipal Airport in Eveleth, Minnesota.

During the approach phase, the aircraft impacted the ground approximately 1.8 nautical miles southeast of the runway's approach end. The impact forces and a subsequent fire resulting from the crash destroyed the airframe. The accident resulted in eight fatalities, including the two pilots and six passengers.
