What happened
On October 8, 2001, a collision occurred on the ground at Milano Linate airport involving a Boeing MD-87, registration SE-DMA, and a Cessna 525-A, registration D-IEVX. During the movement of the aircraft on the airport surface, the two aircraft collided. Following the impact, the Boeing MD-87 struck a baggage building, which subsequently led to a significant fire. The investigation
The investigation conducted by the ANSV examined the air traffic control situation, ground movements, and the airport's infrastructure. Investigators analyzed the aircraft's flight recorders, including the DFDR and CVR of the Boeing MD-87, as well as the communications between the tower and ground controllers. The investigation also scrutinized the airport's taxiway markings, signage, and the effectiveness of the low visibility procedures in place at the time of the accident. Furthermore, the technical capabilities of the airport fire services and the coordination between the tower and the fire station were evaluated.
