What happened
During the early stages of flight from Khabarost-Maly airport, an aircraft experienced a critical structural failure. While the aircraft was climbing to an altitude of 21 metres and maintaining a speed of 155 k/h, the right-side door became unlatched and detached from the fuselage.
As the door fell away, it collided with the right propeller. This impact resulted in the immediate failure of the right engine. Following the loss of engine power, the crew was unable to maintain control of the aircraft. The plane entered a stall and descended into a garden situated less than one kilometre from the airport perimeter.
Upon impact, the aircraft caught fire. The resulting post-crash fire led to the total destruction of the airframe. There were three occupants on board, all of whom sustained serious injuries during the accident.
Findings
- The primary sequence of events was initiated by the detachment of the right door during the climb phase.
- The loss of engine functionality was a direct consequence of the door striking the propeller.
