What happened
On 15 June 2008, a Bishop and Dunn Escapade 912, registration G-CDIZ, was performing a private flight at Sandown Airport, Isle of Wight. Following a landing on Runway 23, the pilot began the normal short landing roll. As the aircraft vacated the runway to taxi toward its parking position, it encountered uneven ground. The aircraft ran over several bumps, which resulted in the deformation of the left landing gear leg. The pilot subsequently stopped the aircraft, shut down the Rotax 912 UL engine, and exited the cockpit to manually push the aircraft back to its designated parking spot.
The investigation
The investigation was based on the aircraft accident report form provided by the pilot. The examination focused on the sequence of events during the landing roll and the impact of the terrain on the aircraft's landing gear. The investigation established that the damage occurred specifically during the transition from the runway to the taxiway area.
