What happened

On November 28, 2019, at approximately 10:00 a.m., an Alarus CH2000, registration HI-878, was involved in a serious incident during the landing phase of a flight under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) at the Dr. Joaquín Balaguer International Airport (MDJB) in the Dominican Republic.

Upon landing on runway 19, the aircraft drifted to the left of the runway centerline. During this excursion, the left wing of the aircraft struck a runway sign. The aircraft was occupied by a single student pilot, who remained uninjured. The aircraft sustained minor damage during the event.

The investigation

The CIAA investigation team arrived at the site the day after the notification of the incident. The investigation team was organized to evaluate operational aspects, human performance, airworthiness, and meteorological conditions. The technical investigation included visual inspections and studies of the aircraft's nose landing gear. At the time of this provisional report, the investigation was in the analysis phase.
