What happened
On September 9, 2000, at 08:35 local time, a Cessna U2/206F, registration HK2018, departed from Arauca, Colombia, bound for Saravena. While performing the approach to runway 33 at Los Colonizadores Airport, the pilot executed a 360-degree right-hand turn. Following the completion of this maneuver, the pilot declared an emergency and performed an emergency landing in a field located approximately three kilometers from the airport runway.
All five occupants on board, including the pilot and four passengers, exited the aircraft uninjured.
The investigation
The investigation into the incident focused on the aircraft's condition following the impact. The landing resulted in significant damage to the airframe, including a bent propeller, impact damage to both the upper and lower engine cowlings, and damage to the rudder and vertical stabilizer. The investigation also noted that the engine's front and rear supports were broken, the nose gear was damaged and partially detached, the right flap was struck, the left wing strut was bent, and the leading edge of the left wing tip sustained damage.
