What happened
On August 1, 2025, a Cessna 182TR, registration HK2434G, was conducting its second flight of the day, traveling from Paipa (SKPA) toward Guaymaral (SKGY). Approximately ten minutes after departing Paipa, while flying lateral to Villa de Leyva, the pilot noticed the engine began losing power. Although the flight plan intended for an altitude of 12,50 0 feet, the aircraft was unable to climb above 10,500 feet.
As the flight progressed, the power loss became increasingly severe, causing a gradual reduction in both airspeed and altitude. While passing near Ubaté, the pilot identified an appropriate field for an emergency landing. During the descent, the aircraft struck overhead cables before contacting the ground at Finca El Pantano, in the Vereda La Patera region. The impact resulted in serious injuries to the pilot, while the three other occupants remained uninjured. All four individuals evacuated the aircraft successfully.
The investigation
The GRIAA investigation focused on the aircraft's flight path and the mechanical state of the engine. Investigators examined GPS tracks to reconstruct the flight trajectory and the search for an emergency landing site. The investigation also included a reconstruction of the impact with the electrical lines.
As part of the ongoing technical analysis, investigators are tasked with performing a comprehensive inspection of the aircraft's components, specifically focusing on the turbocharger, its accessories, and the carburetor to determine the exact nature of the power loss.
