What happened

On the day of the accident, a single-engine airplane departed from runway 30 at Campo de Marte Airport. During the initial climb, the aircraft began a right-hand turn but failed to increase its altitude. Within sixty seconds of leaving the runway, the plane struck a structure on Frei Machado Street, situated approximately 37 of meters from the threshold of runway 12.

The collision and subsequent fire caused the total destruction of the aircraft. There were seven fatalities among the occupants of the plane, which included the pilot and six passengers. One person on the ground sustained minor injuries during the event. The flight was intended to travel from the departure point to Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro.
