Hydraulic failure and engine loss lead to belly landing

No fatalities • Colquemarca, Peru • Flight

An aircraft experienced a series of mechanical failures during cruise, including hydraulic issues and engine power loss, resulting in an emergency belly landing.

What happened

During the cruise phase of flight at 18,000 feet, the aircraft experienced a significant hydraulic failure. This malfunction caused several cockpit instruments to become inoperable. In an attempt to improve visibility and manage the situation, the crew increased the aircraft's altitude.

Shortly after this maneuver, the right engine suffered a backfire and subsequently lost all power. Faced with multiple system failures, the captain initiated an emergency descent to perform a landing. However, the approach was complicated by the presence of localized fog patches in the area.

Due to the deteriorating circumstances, the aircraft performed a belly landing on a plateau. Despite the impact, all three crew members were successfully rescued from the wreckage without reported fatalities.

Probable cause

A sequence of hydraulic system failure followed by the loss of power in the right engine.
